Is Consciousness Shifting? 5 Changes I’m Noticing Right Now

I know I’m not alone in feeling like since 2020 things have been changing on a spiritual level. And this entire year and definitely since July I have felt it not just as “consciousness is evolving!” (although yes) but likethe conditions of consciousness are changing. And by that I mean, what we can access, how quickly we can change, how deeply we can feel one another, and what we’re able to hold all feel different to me.

And therefore what is possible in our inner worlds is changing too.

This is a very exciting time for those of us who are interested in how much more fully of ourselves we can become, how deeply we can love and be loved and how much joy, desire, creativity, and aliveness we can actually let ourselves experience.

But never one to spiritually bypass, it’s also a time when what has been in between you and that whole experience I just described will be more obvious. And that can be painful and uncomfy as your inner child parts are invited out of their old roles. Signed, as always, just my experience.

So what am I seeing and what does this mean to you? Let’s find out!

  1. Increased permeability.
The boundary between conscious awareness and the unseen (intuitive information, spirit guides, etc.) feels decidely thinner to me. Things that people have previously accessed through years of spiritual practice or psychedelics feel much more available to access if you just…want to. Not necessarily effortlessly, but with less distance between us and those states.

After experiencing what felt like many psychedelic experiences with my friend Katie Rose, meeting priestesses and dragon guides and blue dimensions and feeling profound change in my day-to-day life as a result, I found out that this is a known thing in the psychedelic community—to “drop in” without the use of the actual psychedelic. And we were able to achieve this with just normal meditation.

The excitement is not (just) feeling immense love and connection with spirit guides, but what happens when that experience comes back with you into your “practical” life. Something you experience in a journey like that can reorganize how you see yourself, what you believe is possible, what you’re able to release, or how you move through the world.

  2. Time and the way we experience it is shifting.
Have you noticed that time can feel both incredibly speedy and incredibly slow? This feels fairly new to me, or at least much more pronounced since 2020.

A week can feel as stretchy as a month, while something that happened years ago can feel like you’re sitting in it. We can spend years circling something and then experience a shift in an afternoon.

We’ve been thinking about healing as much more linear than it actually is (and with it, the capitalist urge to optimize!). But if consciousness isn’t limited to our ordinary experience of linear time, healing doesn’t have to be either.

The person you are becoming doesn’t only exist at the end of a long sweat sesh of self-improvement. You can have a relationship with that version of yourself now. You can receive information from them, orient toward them, hang out with them and transform something in the present because of your connection to them (you).

  3. More empathy is coming online. When you experience real connection with not just humans but everything else existing in the world, when your connection world is more porous (in a good way), you feel less separate from other people. You may tap into their perspective more easily, feel more tenderness toward them and an almost inexplicable sense of connection to people you may have once felt very far from. The circle of who and what you can feel connected to gets much bigger.

That has enormous implications for how we love each other, how we build community, and what kinds of harm we are willing to tolerate once we can no longer experience someone else’s humanity as entirely separate from our own.

  4. Greater capacity exposes what that capacity can now hold.

Annnnd, as more consciousness comes to light (dude) so does the tricky stuff I alluded to earlier. Old relational wounds, inner child beliefs, avoided emotion, etc. may also become louder as a way of integrating it and treating it as part of your whole experience. But outside of the productivity matrix, it’s not regression. It’s something that can finally become conscious because there is now enough capacity to meet it. What looks like something getting worse may actually be something becoming available for transformation.

  5. There is a movement from separation toward relationship. We could call it a more feminine way of knowing, where relationship itself becomes a source of information. It’s a knowing through relationship with the body, nature, one another, guides, energy, intuition, the unseen. Less “I stand outside reality and figure it out” and more “I am inside a living field that I can be in relationship with.”

The expansion of consciousness requires an expansion of our capacity to hold it.

If all this access is increasing, discernment becomes agenda #1 because more information doesn’t automatically equal clearer information. If we’re more permeable, we need a stronger relationship with ourselves so we can tell intuition from fear, our energy from someone else’s, a guide from our own projection, an old pattern from present information.

Our magic needs a container. And also, we are the container for our magic.

I think this is part of the transformation that’s being asked of us now. As our access expands, we’re being asked to expand our capacity to hold it: to know ourselves deeply enough that we can move through these increasingly porous spaces without losing our own inner knowing. And from there, all of this becomes something we can actually live, rather than an interesting spiritual experience we had once while meditating with our friend and accidentally meeting a dragon.
